Comparative Religion

Comparative Religion at Acadia concentrates on the study of world religions.  The emphasis is on religion in the modern world, the living dimension of various faiths and their continuing importance to many different societies and cultures.  A full-year introductory course (CREL 1206) brings the student into contact with all of the major world religions. Advanced courses on the religions of Asia and on specialized topics (e.g., Ecology and Religion) are available on a rotating basis.  There are as well several courses in History, Sociology, Philosophy and Interdisciplinary Studies that are cross-listed with Comparative Religion (see below for more details).  There is no major  in Comparative Religion, but it can be chosen as a minor. Currently the professor of Comparative Religion (Donna Seamone) is situated in the History Department. The picture at left is of Sri Mahabodhi, Anuradhapura, Lanka (sacred transplant of the tree under which Gotama attained enlightenment, c 520 BCE). (Please click on the picture to enlarge)
